Home beer making is one of those things I originally got into whilst I was still at school.

Homebrew beer was all the fad at the time with plenty of diverse homemade beer kits available in many of the shops and chemist retail outlets.

Myself and group of associates would get all together and go and buy 1 or now and again more than one home beer making kits, usually a few weeks prior to the beginning of the school vacations so it would be ready for the beginning of the summertime holidays, when we would camp in our home gardens, get smashed on manky homebrew beer and vomit in each others shoes.

So for what reason did we get into home beer making?

Well a wide variety of explanations.

Initially we were not even the legitimate beer drinking age bracket but we were A bit of a wild lot and liked to get smashed so home beer brewing was an easy way for us to have nearly unrestricted accessibility to highly potent homemade beer.

Secondly even though run-of-the-mill, ordinary beer from the off licence was low-priced, it was still too uneconomical for us schoolkids to be able to buy a sufficient amount of for a few of us to be able to go out and buy a sufficient quantity of for a special occasion.

Thirdly it evolved into a fun (and profitable) hobby.

Progressively though, after trying out pretty much every home beer brewing Kit on the market and playing around with different brewing techniques we started to learn that home beer making could in truth create better beer than that obtainable commercially.

We came to realize how to brew commercial quality beer, Of course for most of us almost everything that we can do well will often turn into something that we enjoy and as I have become a good beer drinker these two hobbies (brewing and drinking) compliment each other perfectly. It's just a pity it took me so long to get to the level my beer was at least as good as the mass produced beer.
