Baseball has long been known as America’s Pastime. However, you would be surprised to know just how many people fail to understand how the game is actually played. Well, today is your lucky day because I am going to teach you the rules of baseball.

The very first thing you need to know about baseball is the offense try’s to score “runs” over the defense. This is achieved just as the pitcher throws a baseball to the the cather even while an offensive competitor try’s to strike that baseball using a bat ( thiss will put the ball in play).

If the offensive player does put the ball in play then the defense try’s to field the ball and get the player who hit the ball out. In order to get the offensive player out the defense must throw the ball to another defensive player who is touching one of the three bases on the baseball diamond before the offensive player gets there.

If the defense gets the ball to the base before the offensive player gets there then he is called out. If the defense fails to get the ball to the base before the offensive player arrives then he is called safe. In the event that the player who reached the base is called safe his objective is to touch all three bases and arrive at home plate. If he does this than the offense has just scored one run.

Each team gets 9 innings to end the game with the highest run total. Thus each team takes half an inning to play offense and half an inning to play defense. In the event that the score is tied after 9 innings then the game will be forced to go into extra innings.
