Measures The Baseball League Is Taking To Curb Drug Use

July 3rd, 2010 · No Comments · Baseball

Over the last 10 years or so there have been some great performances by many of our top sportsmen and women. However many times these great performances have been overshadowed by the admission of drug enhancements in certain areas of the sport.

We certainly cannot compare the super athletes of today with those great athletes of years ago that accomplished their great records without any outside influences.

Such is the concern surrounding drug taking in sport many fans have decided to let their feet do the talking and boycotted the sporting events altogether. Major League Baseball is one such problem area.

The latest figures say that Baseball attendances are down a couple of percent overall, and although that may not sound a lot, if you compare it to other sports whose attendances are growing then it is a concern. Obviously no sports organizers like to see reductions in their attendances.

The governing bodies of many sports are trying to stem the flow of the drug taking. Bud Selig who is the Baseball Commissioner has stated that they are looking into the possibility of a blood test for Human growth Hormone which he says should be totally banned.

Currently Major League Baseball has banned this but only has an honor system in place. There is no actual test in place for the abusers of this. Needless to say the honor system is not the best way to control this.

Even if any of the Baseball players decided to use enhancement drugs in their quest for a better performance, it is highly unlikely that they are going to be honorable enough to admit using them!

At least we can still look back to the great athletes of yesteryear who managed to excel in their profession, and do it with pride.
