The Texas Longhorns Coach Shows No Worries To The Under Man Problem

August 30th, 2010 · No Comments · Baseball

The Texas Longhorns’ fall camp training sessions opened with Coach Brown having a lot to do. After last season, 18 players left the Longhorns. A number of these athletes belonged to their best-rated players. To mention a few, there were QB Colt McCoy, WR Jordan Shipley, OT Adam Ulatoski, OG Charlie Tanner.

McCoy has gone on to sign a contract with the Cleveland Browns. The Cincinnati Bengals got Shipley in the 2010 NFL draft. Ulatoski has signed in as a free agent with Houston and likewise, Charlie Tanner has gone in as a free agent of the New York Jets.

To plug in the holes that previous members left behind, the primary agenda of this season’s training sessions is conditioning freshmen and sophomores in order to allow older athletes to go on and fill the key positions that are as of today unmanned. By any standards, this is no child’s task.

In the face of the great obstacles he has to hurdle, coach Mack Brown is confident about the good outcome of this season’s games for his team. He remembers that during the season in 2008, pundits had pegged the team for a 9-3 finish or even lower. The team surprised everyone by finishing with a score of 12-1. The following year, they improved that score by one more winning point 13-1. In the same year, they earned the privilege of playing in the BCS national championship games. They contended against Alabama. Although they eventually lost the match, their performance had moved them up to slot #4 as of this years’ fall camp opening.

The current rating of the team has been called exaggerated by some pundits on the grounds that the current unmanned condition of the team does not justify placing them in the fourth position. Justifiable or not, that position puts them close to the top and gives them a much better chance to compete in the championships.

Coach Mack Brown doesn’t like to underestimate the power of belief. The fact that they had excellent expectations for themselves in their last games is important for him. said “When we weren’t expected by the public to win all the games and our players and coaches still expected to…”

Along the same line, there are many who claim that the Longhorns actually have a real chance of getting the trophy for this season. One reason cited is that the team will be facing its most important adversary, Texas A&M, towards the end when they will have had enough time and practice to be in top playing condition.

The coach has also revamped the units of the game. He has made sure to place talent where they are needed. For instance, their back line is not manned by Aaron Williams, Curtis Brown, Chyke Brown and Blake Gideon.

Sophomore Garrett Gilbert is plenty reason for expecting the best this season. He packs great talent and unusual determination in his game. After floundering in the first half of the last BCS championships he rallied himself up to almost achieve for the team the comeback they have always wanted.

Opposing opinions have their justifications. Sheer numbers do not make a winning game. Talent and determination have a lot to contribute. However, the fact remains that the Longhorns’ coach has a lot of training in his hands this fall camp.
