Tips To Execute A Superior Baseball Load For Baseball Batting

October 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Baseball

The load can be a major stumbling block for many players. It seems simple, but when you factor in timing and rhythm, it becomes an extremely complicated task to master. Here are few baseball batting tips on how to complete the mechanics of the baseball load more effectively.

The load has essentially two purposes. First, it helps you to generate momentum increasing your ability to generate bat speed to all parts of the field, and second, it allows you generate a rhythm or “timing” with the baseball pitch.

Anyone who has tried to swing a baseball bat from a standstill position knows it is very difficult and requires a lot of strength. As a result, we must break inertia and began building the force we want to generate into the ball. This relates directly to physics where it easier to move an object already in motion.

Timing and rhythm is a bit more complicated. “Baseball timing” relates to your ability to generate maximum force into the ball through pitch recognition. To take it a step further, it is your ability to give yourself the same amount of time to accurately recognize each ball thrown at you. Whether the pitch is thrown 95 mph or 55 mph, you want to try and give your self the same amount of time in between ending your load and beginning the rest of your baseball swing.

The real struggle comes trying to replicate that process consistently. Quick tip number 1, slow and steady wins the race! Pretend your the tortoise in the old story of the tortoise and the hare. You load is meant to have causal purpose and is not to be rushed. This should help keep you composed and balanced.

Baseball loading tip number 2, have a defined purpose for your load. Know where you load starts, and know where you load ends. Many player run the load together with other steps of the swing causing a longer swing then is necessary and diminishes their power. Keep it simple and limit your body movements.

Finally, loose the tension. Many players carry too much tension through the load portion of the swing. Tension equals muscular stress which reduces speed. Be structured, but be loose. Gripping the bat tighter and trying to power the ball to soon will slow your swing down and reduce power. Trust that your hips will generate your bat speed for you and loose the tension.
