Bowser, Vancouver Island, BC

The small sea front village of Bowser is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island overlooking Georgia Strait. This area is located approximately 66 km north of Nanaimo.

The town of Bowser is situated in a region that is informally known as Lighthouse Country. Lighthouse Country is a stretch of Highway 19A that runs along the ocean side from Qualicum Beach to Fanny Bay across from Denman and Hornby Islands.

Found within the Lighthouse Country area is the communities of Horne Lake, Qualicum Bay, Bowser and Deep Bay. The area is rich in history, folklore and Native culture. Lighthouse Country offers its many visitors a genuinely friendly warm welcome and a super BC vacation destination all in a rustic atmosphere.

The leisure activities in this area includes: swimming, hiking, golf, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and cave spelunking, kayaking, boating and fishing. Bowser is a favourite stop for clam and shellfish diggers. There are many art galleries and artisan in the area. That said, pretty much any activity you can imagine is within driving distance of Bowser.

Centrally located on Vancouver Island this area can truly be called “Oceanside” and with its almost perfect weather conditions, it is an outstanding year-round destination. Fabulous views call from every viewpoint with ocean vistas and snow-capped mountains making a haven for those who are grateful for the great outdoors as well as a place for travelers who want all the usual facilities of a nice relaxing getaway location.

To get to the area follow Highway 19 north from Nanaimo and take the exit marked by big blue highway signs alerting you to “Scenic Route Highway 19A”. You’ll be glad you did. Highway 19A until recently was the main Island highway and is a very scenic drive and since it is no longer the main highway the traffic is light and there are few large transport and logging trucks which makes for a very relaxing drive.

Bowser being just 15 minutes from Qualicum Beach on the Vancouver Island’s sunny east coast. Minutes from Parksville, Qualicum Beach and spectacular golfing – close to everything yet far enough away you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to Paradise!
