Many dads go fishing to refresh themselves from all the work and jobs they do daily. Wives and kids when asked where their dads’ at would usually answer:”Dad’s gone fishing”. I’ve personally tried fishing at a freshwater pond when I was young and it was very boring! Right from the start of getting the spinner bait, hooking it on to the rod then waiting for what seems to be ages isn’t very appealing to a lot of people especially the youth. That being the case, what do dads find so appealing about fishing? In my opinion:
* The outdoors- when our dads’ were young, they spent their time outdoors something that the younger generation don’t do much of with all the gadgets and games around for recreation. They grew up hunting in nearby bushes, swimming in lakes and probably fishing with their dads. Fishing gives them a chance to be ‘young’ again and do the things they used to.
* Alone time- fathers are the most pressured and have loads on their minds everyday. They seek a time to clear their minds. I have this theory that probably many of the family or financial problems faced by the family was ’solved’ while they were out fishing. Since many wives and kids aren’t eager to accompany them, going fishing is their escape from it all.
* It’s a ‘guy’ thing- all men want to be the leader, the one everyone listens to-dominant. When they’re getting a lot of bragging etc from the world, whats one thing that makes them feel like a man, something they have total control of?FISH!
Whenever they feel like a failure or are disappointed about something, that simple sense of accomplishment makes them feel like men again.
* It’s the stories- whether it be a great catch or something they saw while fishing, its a story and something their buddies would love to hear about.
Why don’t many enjoy fishing then? It’s all about being patient. One thing fathers have learned and what youths haven’t yet. I think it would be a good idea for everyone to find time to get outdoors, learn to be patient and enjoy fishing.
