When a person first starts to snowboard, they will be able to get by with rented snowboarding equipment, but after they’ve started snowboarding on a regular basis, they will want to invest in their own equipment. Having their own snowboarding equipment means that they won’t have to spend time waiting for equipment, when they could be boarding down the side of a mountain. Even better, purchasing snowboarding equipment means that all of the equipment will fit properly. The best way to save money when purchasing snowboarding equipment is by purchasing a snowboard package.
When a person decides it’s time to purchase their own snowboarding equipment, the first thing they need to look at is the boots and the bindings. Before purchasing the boots, the snowboarder needs to consider what type of snowboarding they are going to be doing.
If the person plans on doing a great deal of walking, and doesn’t want to have to change into a different pair of boots after boarding, they will probably want a pair of soft boots. If the person thinks that they should spend all of their spare time on their board, will probably be happier with a pair of hard snowboarding boots. Currently, most snowboarders prefer soft snowboarding boots.
Too often, snowboarders shop for their new boots with the same mentality that they shop for dress shoes, if a pair of boots doesn’t fit them perfectly, the boarder assumes the boot will stretch over time. This is a very bad idea. A smart snowboarder keeps shopping for a pair of boots until they find a pair that fits them properly.
The snowboarder should not assume that the boots will stretch; the boots should fit properly while the person is still in the store. The most important feature is the heel. The better the heel fits, the better the person will be able to snowboard. When the snowboarder tries on their boots, they should not feel like their heel is floating. If a person doesn’t like the way the boot feels, they should look at different sizes.
Bindings are an important and often overlooked piece of snowboarding equipment. Step in bindings are great for the impatient snowboarder who doesn’t want to spend a great deal of time messing with their bindings. Freestyle boarders prefer a type of binding called strap in/flow on which are very flexible. The other type of binding is called Plate/lever binding which only works with hard snowboarding boots.
Since not all snowboards work for all people, it is important to seek out the help of the store manager. The height of the person using the snowboard determines the minimum length of the board they need. Another factor that will determine the type of board a person needs is the type of snow they usually board in. Snowboarding in powder requires a different type of board than one uses for hard packed snow.
Snowboard packages aren’t just a great way to save money. The packages are also the best way to make sure that all of your new snowboarding equipment is compatible, not with just the other pieces of equipment, but also the type of snowboarding you routinely indulge in.
